Curriculum

Every level and topic MathGem covers, in one place — click any topic to jump straight to its worksheet.

MathGem is organised into six levels that follow the usual order of school mathematics, from the four operations in the early grades to Pre-Calculus at the end of high school. Each level has its own overview page and a set of topics; every topic page explains the method with worked examples, lists common mistakes and generates printable worksheets with answer keys.

The grade ranges overlap on purpose. Schools, provinces and states introduce topics at different times, and many students review an earlier level before moving on. To choose a starting point, pick the level whose topics your student can do with some effort but not yet with confidence, and start with its easiest settings. The math practice roadmap suggests how much to practise at each stage.

Level 1 — Basic Math

Grades 1–5

The four operations on whole numbers, from quick facts to written methods with carrying, borrowing, long multiplication and division with remainders. Instead of fixed difficulty levels, each worksheet lets you set how many digits each number has (1 to 5), so the same generator serves a first-grader and a fifth-grader.

Level 2 — Basic Math 2

Grades 4–6

The three ways of writing parts of a whole. Fraction worksheets cover all four operations with or without mixed numbers, decimal worksheets use one or two decimal places, and percentage worksheets ask for the part, the percent or the whole, always with whole-number answers.

Level 3 — Pre-Algebra

Grades 6–7

The bridge from arithmetic to algebra: the sign rules for negative numbers, a first look at the order of operations (each Easy and Medium problem has exactly one multiplication), and finding the missing term in a proportion.

Pre-Algebra overview, grade range and recommended order →

Level 4 — Algebra

Grades 7–9

The step to variables. Two order-of-operations topics (mixed practice with negative answers, then exponents, division and brackets) lead into combining like terms, the distributive property and solving linear equations, where all of those skills come together.

Level 5 — Algebra 2

Grades 9–11

Second-degree expressions and beyond: multiplying and factoring polynomials, solving quadratic equations by factoring, systems of linear equations by elimination, simplifying square roots, and exponential equations solved by matching bases.

Algebra 2 overview, grade range and recommended order →

Level 6 — Pre-Calculus

Grades 11–12

The ideas calculus relies on: evaluating, composing and inverting functions, logarithms as the inverse of exponents, exact trigonometric values and basic equations, arithmetic and geometric sequences, and the equation of a circle (the conic sections topic currently covers circles).
