Algebra Worksheets

Five printable worksheet generators for grades 7–9, each with three difficulty levels and an answer key.

Grades 7–9

What Algebra covers

This level is the step from arithmetic to algebra. It starts with the order of operations, the rules that make every expression mean one thing, then introduces variables: combining like terms, expanding with the distributive property, and finally solving linear equations, where all of those skills come together.

These topics are usually taught in grades 7–9, often in a course called Algebra 1; the exact grade depends on the school and the province or state. Each worksheet generator has an Easy, a Medium and a Hard level, so a topic can be used when it is first introduced and again for review.

Algebra topics

Recommended order

  1. Order of Operations I — ++, −-, ×\times and parentheses, with negative answers.
  2. Order of Operations II — adds exponents, division and brackets.
  3. Simplifying Expressions — combining like terms.
  4. Distributive Property — expanding parentheses, then combining like terms.
  5. Solving Equations — uses everything above.

Students who make sign errors in equations usually benefit from going back to Simplifying Expressions for a worksheet or two, rather than repeating harder equations.

How to use these worksheets

  • Open a topic, choose a difficulty and the number of pages, then press Generate. Every press creates a new set of problems.
  • Printing adds an answer sheet on a separate page. The Set ID on the worksheet matches the answer sheet.
  • Each topic page also explains the method with worked examples, lists common mistakes and shows sample problems, so it can be used as a short lesson before the worksheet.
