Pre-Algebra Worksheets

Three printable worksheet generators for grades 6–7, each with an answer key.

Grades 6–7

What Pre-Algebra covers

Pre-Algebra is the bridge between arithmetic and algebra. Students learn to work with negative numbers, to evaluate expressions in the right order, and to reason with ratios. These three skills appear in almost every algebra problem that follows.

These topics are usually taught in grades 6–7, and the exact grade depends on the school and the province or state. Each worksheet is generated fresh every time, with settings for the operation, number range or difficulty depending on the topic.

Pre-Algebra topics

Recommended order

  1. Integers — the sign rules for all four operations.
  2. Order of Operations — some answers are negative, so integers come first.
  3. Ratios & Proportions — can be taught at any point; it builds on equivalent fractions.

After Pre-Algebra, the Algebra level continues with mixed order of operations, like terms and equations.

How to use these worksheets

  • Open a topic, choose the settings and the number of pages, then press Generate. Every press creates a new set of problems.
  • Printing adds an answer sheet on a separate page. The Set ID on the worksheet matches the answer sheet.
  • Each topic page also explains the method with worked examples, lists common mistakes and shows sample problems, so it can be used as a short lesson before the worksheet.
